What is a hijacker on Amazon?
Definition
A seller who joins your listing with a counterfeit, lower-quality, or different product, usually at a lower price, to take the Buy Box.
A hijacker is a seller who adds an offer to your listing without selling the real product. They may ship a counterfeit, a cheaper copy, or something else entirely, and they often undercut your price to take the Buy Box. Shoppers buy from the same page they trust, get a bad product, and leave reviews on your listing.
The term is also used for "detail page hijacking", when someone changes a listing's title, images, or brand data to take over the page. Both hurt the brand and both are visible as changes on the listing.
Hijacker or legitimate reseller?
Not every new seller is a hijacker. Resellers who sell genuine products bought from you or your distributors can usually sell on your listing. A seller becomes a problem when the goods are fake, different from the listing, or sold in a way that breaks your agreements. Tell the two apart before you act, because false infringement reports can hurt your account.
Signs of a hijacker
- A new seller appears on a private-label listing that only you sell.
- The Buy Box moves to an unknown seller, often with a much lower price.
- The seller has little history, ships from far away, or uses long delivery times.
- New reviews mention a different product, poor quality, or a fake.
- The title, images, or brand on the listing change without your edits.
How to respond
- Test buy to get evidence of what the seller actually ships.
- Report it through Brand Registry or Amazon's Report Infringement form if you own the trademark.
- Contact the seller if appropriate and keep a record.
- Repair the listing in Seller Central if content was changed.
Prevention helps too: Brand Registry, Amazon's Transparency program, unique packaging, and bundles make hijacking harder.
How AMZTarget catches hijackers
AMZTarget checks your listings on a schedule and alerts you in Telegram or by email when a new seller appears, the Buy Box changes hands, or the price drops. Listing monitoring logs title, image, and bullet changes with before and after values. The faster you know, the less time a hijacker has to sell on your page.
FAQ
Is every new seller on my listing a hijacker?
No. Authorized resellers of genuine goods may sell on your listing. Check what they sell before reporting them.
Can I remove a hijacker myself?
Not directly. Amazon removes offers after a valid report. Brand Registry makes reporting faster.
How fast will AMZTarget notify me?
After the next scheduled check. More checks per day mean faster alerts.
