What is the Buy Box on Amazon?
Definition
The offer Amazon features on a product page with the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons. Amazon now calls it the Featured Offer.
The Buy Box is the box on the right side of an Amazon product page with the price and the Add to Cart and Buy Now buttons. When several sellers offer the same ASIN, only one offer sits there at a time. Amazon now officially calls it the Featured Offer.
Shoppers rarely open the list of other sellers, so the seller in the Buy Box gets the large majority of sales on that page. Losing it, even for part of the day, can cut sales sharply although the listing looks unchanged.
How Amazon chooses the Featured Offer
Amazon doesn't publish a formula, but its help pages and seller experience point to the same factors:
- Price, including shipping, compared with other offers on and off Amazon.
- Delivery speed and reliability, which is one reason FBA offers often compete well.
- Stock. An offer that is out of stock can't be featured.
- Seller performance: order defect rate, late shipments, cancellations, and account health.
The Buy Box can rotate between sellers with similar offers, so a share of the day is common on shared listings.
When there's no Buy Box
Sometimes no offer is featured and shoppers see "See All Buying Options". This often happens when every price looks uncompetitive compared with other retailers, or when no offer meets Amazon's requirements.
Common reasons sellers lose it
- A competitor or a new seller undercut the price.
- Your offer went out of stock or delivery times grew.
- Account metrics slipped.
- A hijacker joined the listing with a much lower price.
How AMZTarget tracks the Buy Box
AMZTarget checks the product page on your schedule and records which seller holds the Buy Box. When it changes hands, you get an alert in Telegram or by email, together with the price and the list of sellers. Repricer can follow a competitor's price with a fixed offset within your minimum and maximum bounds. Alerts arrive after each scheduled check, so a higher check frequency means faster notice.
FAQ
Can a brand lose the Buy Box on its own product?
Yes. If a reseller has a lower price or faster delivery, Amazon can feature their offer instead of the brand's.
Does the lowest price always win the Buy Box?
No. Price matters a lot, but delivery speed, stock, and seller performance also count. A slightly higher price with faster delivery can win.
How quickly will I know I lost the Buy Box?
With AMZTarget, after the next scheduled check. At 12 checks a day that's within about two hours.
